HOW A FUEL SURGE TANK WORKSA fuel surge tank (FST) is designed to prevent fuel starvation to the engine on vehicles with inadequate fuel tank baffling. The FST fuel pump(s) directly feed the engine. The volume of fuel inside the surge tank acts as a buffer to always keep the FST supplied with fuel. This volume is maintained by the main fuel tank's pump as well as the fuel returning from the fuel pressure regulator. Excess fuel in the surge tank is returned back to the vehicle's main fuel tank. The surge tank also provides a quick and easy way to upgade any standard fuel system. This is an excellent fueling solution for vehicles installing large demand power upgrades such as forced induction.  FEATURES Radium Engineering 20-1195 features a large 2.21L (0.58 gallon) canister. A combination of 3 different fuel pickups can be used. There are two 80u (micron) filters included for the two 10AN (5/8') pickups.  NOTE: A high micron external fuel filter will need to be purchased separately if the provided 16AN (1') pickup will be used. SURGE TANK COMPATIBILITY20-1195 is preassembled with a single 10AN pickup (shown below) for an inline external pump or mechanical pump. However, an additional 10AN pickup (shown below) is provided if a second pump is required. Alternatively, a 16AN pickup is provided for an inline external pump or mechanical pump. Lastly, the 16AN pickup and one of the 10AN pickups can be used together for an inline external pump and mechanical pump. NOTE: An electric pump can be used to prime a mechanical pump (for faster engine starting) when running 2 of the pickups. PLUMBING The 3 black ports are used for fuel entering and exiting the surge tank. These ports are tapped to 3/4'-16 (8AN ORB) and three -6AN male adapter fittings are provided, as shown below. If larger port fittings are required, they can be purchased separately NOTE: A "lift pump" is required to supply fuel to this surge tank. MOUNTING- The underside of the surge tank is suitable for uneven surfaces commonly found in the trunk of a vehicle.- The surge tank should not be mounted horizontally as the pick-up(s) will be prone to drawing in air pockets.- Stainless steel M6x 1.0mm socket head bolts are included for custom mounting.
