do88 performance intercooler designed for easy installation in the BMW! Benefits of the do88 high-performance intercooler (original intercooler): - Larger core volume: 15517 cm3 (6933 cm3), 124% larger! - Larger active cooling area, 1151 cm2 vs 658 cm2, 75% larger. - Airflow at 0.15 bar pressure drop: 498 CFM (357 CFM), 41% higher! - Peak power increase of 13 hp! Measured on a 335xi N55 with stage 1 software. - Lower temperature after the intercooler under the same test conditions: 43°C (58°C), 15°C lower! Measured on a 335xi N55 that was completely standard apart from the intercooler. This intercooler is designed for the best cooling capacity under demanding conditions. Made entirely from aluminium with fully seam-welded joints, it guarantees durability and endurance when it really matters. The enlarged core volume improves cooling capacity and lowers the engine inlet temperature. As this is a do88 performance product, we have of course carried out thorough testing during the development phase to reach the best performance. No compromises have been made. This cooler is optimised for the available space as far as is possible, for installation in the original location. The original intercooler has “click connections” for both hoses. This type of connection is both restrictive to airflow and not exactly reliable when running high boost pressure. The original intercooler has hoses made of rubber and a plastic “J-pipe” (intercooler outlet pipe). We redesigned our intercooler connections to conventional Ø3" (76 mm) hose connections. To match these connections we include reinforced silicone hoses and a 2.5" (63 mm) mandrel-bent aluminium J-pipe. Our J-pipe fits together with the original charge pipe or with other aftermarket charge pipes that are made to be fitted together with the original plastic J-pipe. All these improvements result in better cooling, a lower pressure drop and a far more reliable intercooler installation that withstands high boost pressure. A full 124% greater core volume is a difference we are proud to have achieved. It is something that can genuinely be felt. The engine pulls considerably better across the whole rev range and withstands repeated hard pulls without building heat. The notion that the intercooler is something that does not need replacing until a high level of tuning is reached is untrue, yet it remains widely and wrongly held. On warm Swedish summer days, during repeated pulls, spirited driving or simply in a warmer climate, it takes little effort for the engine to start generating dangerously high intake temperatures, even on a completely untuned car. The standard intercooler's cooling capacity is in many cases clearly inadequate, and the engine and its power suffer for it. The heat has to go, otherwise the promised power will drop drastically as soon as the throttle is opened. The original intercooler's plastic air guide has to be cut (see the fitting instructions) to make it possible to install our much larger intercooler. This is required for most aftermarket intercoolers that have a large stepped core like ours. Once the air guide has been cut, a large opening appears at the top of the core, letting valuable cooling air slip past the core to no benefit. We could not accept that, so we designed a plastic air guide that prevents it; it is fitted on top of the core (this air guide is included in the kit). This product comes with everything needed for easy installation. Bolts, washers, hoses, clamps, J-pipe, air guide and fitting instructions are of course included. Take care of the engine.
