This is a high-end universal core from Garrett using advanced Aerospace technology. Whether the intercooler is being built for a pure race car or an extreme street car, this is the obvious choice where industry-leading technology and performance are required. Garrett's cores are made to deliver lasting cooling performance for the high boost pressures and temperatures generated by extreme engines. Garrett has over 75 years of experience with intercoolers and is regarded in the industry as a respected player when it comes to intercooler design and function, which makes it an obvious choice for several respected manufacturers of performance vehicles. Garrett uses bar and plate technology for its cores. The bars Garrett uses in its cores are much thinner than most other manufacturers can offer. This has a very positive effect on the active cooling area, the weight and the pressure drop across the core. The cooling fins used are an advanced composition of high-density offset fins proven to lower the intake temperature very effectively. Each core is rated by Garrett for a certain power level, which makes it easy to choose the right core for a given project. As a general rule, use the largest core that will fit while still allowing correctly shaped end tanks to be made and accommodated. For air-to-air intercoolers it is of course also very important to ensure a good flow of cooling air through the core. The aim of a well-designed intercooler is an evenly distributed flow through the tanks and the core, in order to optimise cooling and also to minimise the pressure drop. Pressure drop in this case means that the pressure after the intercooler is lower than the pressure before the intercooler; this will always be the case regardless of intercooler design, but a good design gives a lower pressure drop. End tanks with a side connection are often preferable in terms of distributing the flow best and minimising the pressure drop, but it can often be difficult to fit them in the car. To protect the intercooler against vibration and thermal expansion damage, it is recommended that the intercooler be mounted with rubber vibration dampers. * The power level this core is rated for applies under normal operating conditions; the maximum possible power level may be higher than this figure. The dimensions of this core are as given in the drawing and the data table:
