The world's first model-specific air filter system for the Porsche 992 Carrera, -S, -GTS! Background When Porsche launched the 992, the naturally aspirated concept had been abandoned for the Carrera models. All 911s are now forced induction, which makes this entry-level model very interesting for those aiming at high power figures as well. Every car has its own particular conditions, and the layout of the intercooler system on the 992 is completely different from earlier generations of turbocharged Porsches, which also affects the car's air intake. Unlike earlier generations, the 992 no longer has a shared air filter box in the engine bay for both turbochargers. The air intake is still located in the engine lid, but the air filters and their boxes sit behind each rear wing and are therefore better protected from engine bay heat. This solution is better thought out than before, but there is certainly room for improvement – hence the do88 carbon fibre intake system! Key features - More oxygen to the engine, less vacuum and better flow! - Air flow at 0.175 bar / 2.54 psi pressure drop: 1360-1554 CFM (1202 CFM), 13-29% higher (depending on version)! See the diagram below the product images. - Air box designed as a 3D free-form shape in CAD. - Vacuum-formed prepreg carbon fibre for the best finish and fit. - Supplied with high-quality silicone hoses and mounting accessories. - Fits against OE or do88 inlet hoses (66mm or 80mm). - Washable BMC cone filters with increased flow. BMC's cleaning interval of 20,000–25,000 km should be observed. Considerations The efficiency of a turbocharged car depends directly on the inlet temperature and the back pressure in the system. What is sometimes forgotten is that good flow before the turbo compressor is just as important for it to work efficiently. Less vacuum and cold intake air allow the turbo to pump a greater air mass, which ultimately affects the amount of oxygen reaching the intake - and that is what makes power. In short, there are large power gains to be had from a good inlet system! Over our years of development we have come to see the clear relationship between intake temperature, flow to the turbochargers and how this affects the car's power. With that knowledge it was clear from the start that we wanted to develop a fully closed system that is not affected by the surrounding heat in the way an open system is. We also saw that there was room for an improvement beyond what a model-specific panel filter offers. The finished product We began development by 3D scanning the entire available space on the car so that we could work on the products rationally in a CAD environment. The whole system is flow-optimised, and radii and angles were reworked in several rounds to achieve the best result! The finished product is CFD-verified and, of course, also flow-verified on our own flow bench, a Superflow SF-1020, so that the customer knows what they are buying. The do88 air filter box is made from vacuum-formed prepreg carbon fibre matting of the finest quality, with CNC-machined connections to the turbo inlet. To achieve considerably better air flow than standard, the system is space-optimised as far as possible in order to house a large inverted cone filter with the best cotton filter media from the renowned BMC! The box is held in place in the car by a water-jet cut stainless steel bracket. Our system replaces the car's entire original air box and gives a genuine performance increase. Silicone hoses in a discreet matt finish are included, fitting straight against the car's existing intake ducts that take air from the intercooler air guides. The system is completely sealed! This kit is supplied with everything needed for fitting to a Porsche 992 Carrera, Carrera S or GTS, and comes in three versions. 1. Intake system only, with 66mm connection to suit the original turbo inlet hoses. 2. Intake system with 66mm connection together with do88 66mm turbo inlet hoses. 3. Intake system with 80mm connection together with do88 80mm turbo inlet hoses. All three give improved flow (see the diagram below the product images for the differences). Note that the version with the 80mm connection takes up more space on the inside of the rear wheels, which should be taken into account alongside other modifications. We are proud of the performance upgrade this provides, especially on tuned cars that need more oxygen, but a strictly standard car also benefits from the increased flow! *The video shows a Porsche (992) 911 Carrera; some details may differ.
