A true performance upgrade for the 911 Carrera, -S, -GTS, -Dakar! The world's first complete intercooler package for the 992.1 Carrera. This is do88's most complex product ever! In our view, this kit is as good as an intercooler kit for this platform can ever be designed. We have left no stone unturned in order to reach maximum performance in every single aspect of the system. The cores from the renowned Garrett Motorsport are beautifully made and exactly to the specification we judged to be optimal in terms of heat transfer versus airflow. The tanks are made from thin cast aluminium to keep the weight down and optimise flow. To accommodate a larger core, we replace the air guides with carefully designed carbon fibre air guides of the highest quality! The connections on the intercooler have been made larger to eliminate bottlenecks in the system, and the hoses supplied are, as always, made with soft, sweeping transitions. We have made no compromises in this development – here is the result! Key features: - Lower inlet temperature under the same test conditions: 30°C (39°C), 9°C lower! - More oxygen to the engine, less back pressure and better flow! - Airflow at 0.175 bar / 2.54 psi pressure drop: 919 CFM (820 CFM), 12% higher! - High-quality Bar&Plate cores of motorsport specification from Garrett - Cast tanks with 3D free-form design - Specially designed carbon fibre air guides - Supplied with high-quality silicone hoses and fitting accessories - Ports for methanol injection (2x 1/8 NPT) in the intercooler outlet tank Background: When Porsche launched the 992, the naturally aspirated concept had been abandoned for the Carrera models. All 911s are now forced induction, which makes this entry-level model very interesting also for those who want to reach high power figures! Every car has its own particular conditions, and the layout of the intercooler system on the 992 in particular is completely different from earlier generations of turbocharged cars from Porsche – but the principle is of course exactly the same. With our experience from earlier developments, we took on this project with great confidence. As a pioneer on the market for this platform, high demands were placed on accuracy and forward thinking. We are proud of what we have to offer 992 owners! While earlier generations of the Porsche 911 have their intercoolers in the respective rear wings, with a Y-pipe joining them before the charge air reaches the intake, the 992 has a completely different arrangement. The intercooler and Y-pipe are now a single unit, sitting directly beneath the rear wing. The air is forced through ducts from the rear window down to a scoop and through the core for maximum heat transfer. The active wing plays an important role by directing a considerably larger volume of air downwards when raised. Seen from the outside, this solution appears more rational, but it also places further demands on us as a manufacturer of performance coolers. To make room for a core with a greater surface area / volume, new air guides are required for it to fit at all. We are glad that this product allowed us to take our carbon fibre production to the next level – a fit and finish worthy of a car such as the Porsche 911! Cores from Garrett: The cores are of the Bar&Plate type from the well-regarded Garrett Motorsport and are of the utmost quality. Thin, densely packed cooling fins give a solid construction that ensures efficient heat transfer. The core measures a full 105 mm in thickness and is, in our opinion, exactly as thick as is ever possible. The air is distributed across the whole of the cores via free-form designed cast tanks. An enormous job involving 3D scanning, CFD analysis and repeated rounds of 3D printing to get everything right. As before, we chose cast tanks, since they often allow shapes that CNC machining cannot achieve, and for us form never comes before function. Maximum flow matters more than the bling factor! The tanks come with machined connections of 2.75"/70 mm to further enable high power outputs. In addition there are unique hoses that match these larger connections. The two cores are joined by a central cast tank with a CNC-machined connection to the throttle body and ports for methanol injection. Carbon fibre air guides: The air guides are made from vacuum-formed prepreg carbon fibre mat, and every piece has mounting lugs for the air ducts just like the original. The shapes are very complex, but we guarantee a perfect fit! The two upper guides are always the same regardless of equipment, but for the two lower ones there are two options: Standard or SportDesign, the latter having better evacuation of the cooling air. Our measurements show that SportDesign genuinely contributes to increased cooling efficiency, but as mentioned we offer unique air guides for both variants. The guides are supplied with sealing strips where required, so that they seal tightly against the engine bay and prevent the cooling air from slipping past the cores. Performance: As for performance, the do88 intercooler kit gives a tangible reduction in inlet temperature! The difference compared with the 992 Carrera OE intercooler can be seen in the graph. All data was collected with our AIM racelogger during five directly consecutive accelerations at an airfield. Full-throttle acceleration from 50-250 km/h in a Porsche 911 Carrera S (450 hp). Then hard braking, no cooling down between runs, just full send! The tests were carried out as follows: First, five pulls were made with the OE 992 intercoolers fitted. Stop, quick change of parts on site. A few minutes of warming up and then five pulls with the do88 intercooler, in exactly the same way as with the OE parts a few minutes earlier. The temperature reduction is striking, a maximum difference of 9°C, see the graph. Cooling matters, but so does flow. After many hours at the drawing board refining and smoothing the tanks, combined with a core that meets our requirements, we have a result that speaks for itself. With our own Superflow SF-1020 flow bench we have verified the flow of both the OE 992 and the do88 intercooler. What you see is what you get – true performance!
