A true performance intercooler for the 991 Turbo / Turbo S - Lower inlet temperature under the same test conditions: 40°C (57°C). 17°C lower. See the diagram below. - More oxygen for the engine, less back pressure and better flow! Air flow at 0.175 bar / 2.54 psi pressure drop: 726 CFM (607 CFM), 19% higher (do88 intercooler + OE Y-pipe vs OE intercooler + OE Y-pipe)! See the diagram below. - High-quality motorsport-grade bar and plate cores from Garrett. - Cast end tanks with 3D free-form design. - Purpose-designed carbon fibre air guides. - Supplied with high-quality silicone hoses and fitting hardware. In short: more cooling, more flow, more power. MERA, quite simply. During the initial development phase of this intercooler we carried out a thorough market analysis. It turned out that many of the performance upgrades on offer were barely upgrades at all, being rather on the same level as the original 991 intercooler or, in some cases, even worse. We realised we were facing a major challenge and that no shortcuts could be taken anywhere - the car's limited space had to be used to the full. In order to distribute the flow across the entire core, we use cast, flow-verified end tanks. A well-designed tank shape is decisive for taking full advantage of the heat transfer properties and for maximising flow. Flow and cooling also depend directly on the size of the core, and in order to use the thickest possible core, the upper air guides are replaced with carbon fibre guides designed by do88 on the basis of 3D scanning. This guarantees a fit against both the car's structure and our thicker intercoolers. To maximise the effects of heat transfer, these air guides come with proper sealing strips against both the intercooler and the bodywork, so that the cooling air does not take the easiest route past the core. The intercooler connections are a full 70 mm in order to maximise flow and eliminate bottlenecks in the system. As a result, this kit is supplied with new hoses in all four positions, all designed and CFD-tested to achieve optimal flow. The hoses at the turbo compressor outlet are made from a material with particularly high heat resistance, rated for 240°C continuous temperature. Overall, the weight increase is relatively low given the size and density of the intercoolers and the fact that they are made entirely from aluminium. They weigh 8.5 kg per side compared with 3.1 kg for the original 991 intercooler. It is an increase, certainly, but one that is more than justified considering the performance upgrade this kit delivers. The do88 intercoolerkit MERA comes with hoses for either the OEM or the do88 Y-pipe (63 mm). The only difference is the hoses supplied. As for performance, the do88 intercooler kit gives a noticeable reduction in inlet temperature. The graph below shows the difference against the 991 OEM intercooler. All data was collected with our AIM racelogger over 5 directly consecutive runs. Full-throttle acceleration from 50-250 km/h in a Porsche 991 with stage 1 software. No cooling down between runs, just full throttle throughout. The air conditioning was switched off and Sport Plus activated on all runs. The tests were carried out as follows: First, 5 pulls were made with the OEM 991 intercoolers fitted. Stop, quick change of parts on the spot. A few minutes of test driving and then 5 pulls with the do88 intercoolers, in exactly the same way as with the OEM parts a few minutes earlier. The temperature reduction is striking, 17°C maximum difference; see the graph below. Cooling is important, but so is flow. After many hours at the drawing board refining and polishing the end tanks, combined with a core chosen to meet our requirements, we have a result that speaks for itself. The do88 intercoolerkit MERA is far more effective in both heat transfer and flow. With our own Superflow SF-1020 Probench we have verified the flow as a complete system, with hoses on both inlet and outlet, for both the OEM 991 and the do88 intercoolers. What you see is what you get - true performance.
