do88 performance intercooler designed for easy installation in the Toyota Yaris GR! This do88 intercooler is designed for the best cooling capacity under demanding driving conditions. When developing it, we were determined to increase the cooling area (frontal area) of the core. With a correctly shaped core and end tanks, a larger cooling area improves cooling considerably across the whole speed range. A low/thick intercooler, which would be considerably easier to design for this car, usually only cools better at high speeds (a high air speed is needed to push the cooling air through a thick core). Our route was obvious to us, as we expect this car to be used on technical circuits with a lower average speed as well. To be able to increase the cooling area, the crash bar has to be moved forwards so that the intercooler fits behind it. Two special spacers therefore had to be designed to move the crash bar forwards; these spacers also turned out to be an optimal position to use as mounting points for our intercooler. What many unfortunately overlook when developing a new intercooler is the need for air guides. Air passages around the intercooler should not be left open, as a large part of the cooling air will slip past them instead of going through the core. We include two “tailor-made” air guides that block these escape routes for the air. To improve flow (reduce the pressure drop) through the intercooler, we increased the size of the connections on our intercooler to 63 mm (2.5"), as the original has very restrictive 45 mm (1.75") connections. So that our intercooler fits together with the original charge pipes, we include two specially designed silicone hoses. The enlarged core volume improves cooling capacity and lowers the engine inlet temperature. As this is a do88 performance product, we have of course carried out thorough testing during the development phase to reach the best performance. No compromises have been made. This cooler is optimised for the available space as far as is possible in order to fit an intercooler with a large cooling area. A full 91% greater core volume and 168% greater cooling area is a difference we are proud to have achieved (Tube&Fin core, 57 mm thick). It is something that can genuinely be felt. The engine pulls considerably better across the whole rev range and withstands repeated hard pulls without building heat. The notion that the intercooler is something that does not need replacing until a high level of tuning is reached is untrue, yet it remains widely and wrongly held. On warm Swedish summer days, during repeated pulls, spirited driving or simply in a warmer climate, it takes little effort for the engine to start generating dangerously high intake temperatures, even on a completely untuned car. The standard intercooler's cooling capacity is in many cases clearly inadequate, and the engine and its power suffer for it. The heat has to go, otherwise the promised power will drop drastically as soon as the throttle is opened. Some of the original plastic air guides have to be cut (see the fitting instructions) to make it possible to install our much larger intercooler. The polystyrene clipped onto the crash bar has to be removed during installation. The polystyrene does not fit once the crash bar is moved forwards. This product comes with everything needed for easy installation. Bolts, washers, hoses, brackets, clamps, air guides and fitting instructions are of course included.
